Kyocera’s most recent smartphone, named the Torque, has been called an “ultra-rugged” device. It is an LTE-packing Ice Cream Sandwich handset that was made to the Military Standard 810G standards, meaning its owner can drop it, get it dirty or even put it in up to a meter of water for half an hour and continue to use it. The handset is to be offered by Sprint on March 8th with a $100 price after signing a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate.
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ): Current Price: $45.25
The company stocked the TV Everywhere buffet for FiOS TV subs with content from 11 NBCUniversal networks, under a pact that was signed by the companies last fall. The NBCU programming is currently available through the My Verizon portal and it includes shows from Bravo, USA, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC News, NBC, Syfy, mun2, Telemundo, and Cozi TV. Furthermore, FiOS TV users will be able to access a live simulcast of CNBC. Next month, Verizon has plans to “launch a few more NBCU networks,” stated spokeswoman Heather Wilner.
Vodafone Group plc (NASDAQ:VOD): Current Price: $25.01
The company’s CEO, Vittorio Colao, chose to leave the opportunity open for the possibility of a near-term deal with the ability to change the ownership of mobile-phone giant, Verizon Wireless. Verizon holds 55 percent and 45 percent is held by Vodafone, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Alcatel-Lucent, S.A. (NYSE:ALU): Current Price: $1.40
The company’s Board of Directors has announced that it will name Michel Combes as the company’s newest Chief Executive Officer, beginning on April 1. Additionally, Combes will join the company’s Board of Directors, subject to the approval of shareholders at the Alcatel-Lucent annual general meeting on May 7.
